As the New Year approaches many people set resolutions but they hardly ever work.  Most are forgotten within a few hours.  The best way to improve your life is to plan for it.  Here are the top 5 plans to get you ready for the year ahead.

Family First

LIfe often gets in the way.  Do you find yourself saying to the kids, we’ll do that later when I have more time.  Or when I have more money we’ll go to such and such place.

Sadly, families are a part of our lives for such a short time.  Making a plan to have special time with them on birthdays or special occassions goes a long way towards building your relationship with family and keeping not only you but everyone else happy.

I remember my daughter complaining that my husband and I worked long hours.  I agreed we did.  But pointed out to her that we only worked on a school day.  Every school holiday we spent with her.  Birthdays and Special Occassions we spent with her.  We only worked when she was at school or home doing homework.  Family time together

I then asked her what happened with the kids at school.  She replied they didn’t see their parent during holidays, the parents were busy working and the kids were usually in childcare.

When she realised that we both made the time to be with her by working longer hours during school days she appreciated that she had what a lot of other kids dreamt of.  Time with family when it mattered.

Healthy Body and Mind

Plan to be as healthy as possible.

Everyone has health issues at some time during their lives. Do you plan to keep your body and mind as healthy as possible.

Simple daily activities such as walking, jogging or playing a sport help to keep the body fit and active.

Meditation is a great way of clearing the mind and resetting it.

It doesn’t take long to build a routine that is based around ensuring a healthy mind and body.

For me, about 30 minutes a day is all it takes for ensuring the mind is looked after through reading, journaling and visualisation.  As for the body, a daily walk helps maintain a certain level of fitness.  It doesn’t need to be high energy just the activity of walking works the muscles and lungs helping the body remain as healthy as possible.

Continuous Learning

Nothing stays the same, it is forever changing. You are either moving forwards or moving backwards. This is where a plan for learning is essential.

Are there things you always wanted to learn but never did. Now is the time to put a plan in place for your education.  It doesn’t have to be formal eduction.  It could be reading a book, watching some videos or going to a workshop.

I bought my first computer for my business in 1992.  It had DOS operating system and used Windows 3.1. It was used for writing letters to clients and printing invoices.  Today, my computer is essential for face to face communication for both work and family around the world.  I write books and self-pubish, I have online courses and many other things.

The reason I can do all these things is due to creating a plan for learning.  Identifying what was needed to improve my life or my business and finding courses to help me achieve what was needed.  Education

Every year I attend workshops, mainly online, that provide something I have identified as essential to move my business forward each year.  Then spend the next 12 – 24 months implementing the changes into my business or into my personal life.

Continous learning keeps me moving forward.

When I first started working for myself, a coach said, take every 6th week off.  Put that in your diary now.

I thought he was crazy.

When you are setting up a new business or running any kind of business, who is able to take time off.

I was wrong.

Taking time out is essential.  It clears the mind and helps you refocus on where you want your business to be in the future.

Thinking is as important as doing.  Time OUt

The more time I spend thinking the more productive I become and the better my business performs.  When you are working at a high pace every day without actually realising it, your creative ideas which helped to build your business in the first place slowly disappear.

For many years, I have taken Friday as a day off.  This gives me a long weekend of rest every week.  In the past 12 months I started creating additional space within each month that I don’t work.  During this time my business has doubled.  Time out has allowed me to become more creative and more productive within my business.
