The biggest evolution since November 2022, has been AI (Artificial Intelligence). The online world has changed so drastically, it is difficult to stay ahead of the changes.

Courses created over the past month are soon out of date so a different approach to delivering training was needed to ensure clients get up to date information. Information which is relevent. So, we changed courses to memberships.

The base information remains the same. However, through the monthly meetings latest information is available with training to implement and keep businesses and investment strategies up-to-date.

Referred to as the 8th wonder of the world by Einstein, the compounding effect is about taking small sums of interest or dividends and reinvesting them.

The repetition of reinvesting grows the capital investment quicker and quicker. It is like a rolling snowball effect where the snowball starts small and gets bigger as you roll it.

When you reinvest dividends, you’re using them to buy more shares of the share, which in turn will generate even more dividends. It’s a cycle that can significantly accelerate the growth of your investment over time, harnessing the power of compounding to build wealth.

A look at historical data throws up an interesting fact: dividend-paying shares have often outperformed their non-dividend counterparts over the long haul. Consistent dividend payers are often used as a marker of a company’s financial health and stability, which can be a comforting sign for investors looking for less volatile share performance.

5 Benefits of Monthly Dividend Shares

When using a monthly dividend income strategy there are some benefits rarely spoken about.

1. Reinvesting the monthly dividend will see the capital investment grow quicker.
2. When monthly dividends are reinvested the annual yield is higher due to the compounding effect.
3. It is the perfect strategy to use in a volatile and downward market as you can buy more shares as the price drops increasing the dividend paid.
4. The average cost per share is reduced quicker meaning shares don’t need to rise much to generate healthy profits.
5. Dividends can be partially reinvested providing both income and growth. Partial investment means income taken from dividends still grows each month.

Using a monthly dividend income strategy is a powerful way to even out the ups and downs of the share market while continuing to grow dividend income.

Using a PCA Strategy with Reinvesting Dividends

A PCA Strategy (Price Cost Averaging) is when instead of investing a lump sum to buy shares, a regular monthly amount is used.

The result from this is when the price goes down there is less risk to capital but more opportunity to buy more shares and receive more dividend.

As share price goes down and more shares are purchased the average share cost also goes down. The effect is that as prices rise they don’t need to rise as much to be able to sell the shares for profit.

As an example. If you are buying shares for £1 each and the price drops to 50p you get double the number shares. If investing £100 per month at £1 you get £100 shares with average price of £1. If the price drops to 50p you can now buy 200 shares. Total share holding becomes 300 with an average share price of 66 pence. If the shares go up to 67p they are in profit.

When you factor in dividends, buying more shares and receiving more income from dividends you have a win/win in almost any situation on the share market.

 How to Choose Monthly Dividend Income Shares

Surprisingly, it is much easier to find monthly dividend shares that thought.

A quick search for the top monthly dividend shares on Google or other search engine will quickly provide some companies.

The next step is to check the history for paying dividends and what the percentage payment is against the company profitable income. Ideally, the percentage will be less than 100%.

If it is higher than 100% the company will likely get into trouble very quickly. If it is less than 100% the company is operating with a long-term stability structure.

Those couple of quick searches will provide several shares to invest in.

 Consistency is the Key to Success

If you want to truly excel in dividend investing, consistency is key. Regularly contribute to your investments and don’t neglect to review and adjust your portfolio as needed. Even if you have to start small, your first attempt doesn’t need to be your last. By continually investing and optimizing your portfolio, the effects of compounding become even more pronounced.

I created a spreadsheet that looked at the benefit of investing £100 per month using an ISA for tax efficiency. In the spreadsheet, the returns were calculated using monthly dividend income shares that were reinvested.

By year 6, the dividend received was more than the annual amount invested.

Once this change took effect the investment grew exponentially. However, when a larger lump sum was invested it took longer to achieve this result by a few years.

Slow and steady offered the best results for Monthly Dividend Investing.

The Lightbulb Moment

For as long as I can remember, studying the wealthy and how they made money was my hobby.

As a kid, my mother had asked me what type of lifestyle I wanted in the future. Describing my future dreams her reaction was “You better marry a millionaire” My response was, “Why can’t I be one?”

That was the catalyst to becoming a millionaire.

However, it didn’t matter how much I studied the wealthy, things just never worked for me until one day I had a lightbulb moment.

There was one thing I had not done – create a plan.

The Plan

As a business owner, planning was part of my business culture. Plans were created and regularly reviewed. I knew all about planning.

But I had never thought about a personal plan for wealth. That was a challenge and took time to reflect on.

Eventually, the plan was created.

Step 1 – Create businesses to generate cash for investing

Step 2 – Invest into Monthly Dividend Income Shares for income and growth

Step 3 – Build a property portfolio

Step 4 – Hedge investments by investing in commodities

Step 5 – write books about experience, skills and knowledge for each part of the journey.

The result was going from Zero to Multi-Millionaire within 4 years.

Step 1 – Business

Businesses are easy to start and create a cashflow that can be used for investing.

When working with clients, I challenge them on the 1st month to take a look around their homes at something they haven’t used for 6 months and think unlikely they will use again in the coming 6 months. Then sell it. Use platforms such as eBay, Etsy, Shopify etc.

The results have been quite amazing. Earnings range from £211 – £5500 in one month.

Clients now have a business opportunity / side hustle they can continue growing.

One client now earns circa £40,000 a year from eBay. Found a niche they liked and developed it into a business model that generates an income that allowed them to give up their full-time job.

As for me, I had just arrived in the UK and didn’t have any unused item to sell. I joined Kleeneze and Avon.

Every night I would walk down one street delivering catalogues and walk back on the street I had delivered to the previous night.

Profit from the catalogue business went into share investing.

Later this developed into online businesses – affiliate marketing; information products, books and courses.

Step 2 – Digital Investing, Monthly Dividend Income Shares

The first target for the catalogue business was to generate a monthly profit in excess of £100 to invest into shares.

I opened an online brokerage account and started investing in Monthly Dividend Income Shares. Reinvesting the dividends each month back into the shares.

This compounding effect provided a higher return than traditional investing with income growing every month.

As the dividends grew, I expanded into penny share investing for growth income.

As the country was coming out of recession, many shares were undervalued. Identifying penny shares, I started accumulating as many as possible.

As the shares went up in value and doubled in price, half the shares were sold with the income going into monthly income dividend shares.

The remaining shares were left to again double in price, when another 50% of holdings were sold.

This process was continued until all the penny shares were sold.

I still use this strategy today only now cryptocurrency is also included.

Cryptocurrency has monthly earnings and low value tokens equivalent to the monthly dividend shares and penny shares.

Step 3 – Build a Property Portfolio

I returned to the UK when my mum died. I lost 6 members of my family over the next 8 months. During this time my husband and I were living with my step-father.

He was in his 70s and didn’t want to be on his own. So, we looked at a property opposite his providing him with the companionship he still needed.

The property was on the market for £54,999. We had a mortgage approved for 95% as a first-time buyer in UK. We made an offer on the property for the asking price but asked for a gifted deposit. The offer was declined.

A month later the price was dropped to £49,999 and again we made an offer with a gifted deposit it was declined.

Two months later, the price dropped again to £44,999 and again our offer was declined.

After several months the price dropped to £39,999 with a gifted deposit and we bought the property.

Refurbished the property, got it revalued to £65,000 and applied for an 85% mortgage.

With the surplus cash in hand after the old mortgage had been repaid, we headed to Auction. Bought a property for £7200. Refurbished it. It was revalued at £35,000. Applied for an 85% mortgage using the cash from the mortgage to buy more properties.

This process was continued until we owned 60 properties in under 4 years.

With property prices rising and each property worth well over £100,000 we had £6 million in property assets.

Step 4 – Hedge with Commodities

Gold and Silver were the commodities we chose to buy. Coins and Bars could easily be purchased online.

We set a rule, that 10% of mortgage cash we were generating would be used to buy Gold and Silver bars and coins.

Some were placed in vault storage, while some coins were kept in a home safe for easy access and liquidity.

Gold has been on a long bull run since President Nixon took the dollar off the gold standard. In the 1970s gold was $32 a troy ounce. When we started buying it was $400 and today it is $2696.

While not an exciting investment, it has been a long and steady growth for many years.

Step 5 – Write Books About Experiences, Skills and Knowledge

The decision to write about my journey to building wealth has resulted today in 30 books. Three number 1 international best-selling books.

Once the books drop off their peak sales, I create information products and courses.

There is demand for “how to” books, courses and videos (YouTube & TikTok). This has created another business generating income.

The books are self-published through Amazon and the courses and information products are available through Karen Newton International. Videos are available on YouTube Channels and TikTok.

Full Circle

The plan I created, helped to build my wealth, and is a continuous cycle of business creation; income generation and investing.

I went from Zero to £10 million in under 4 years. Today, this simple plan has helped me to increase wealth even more with the aim to become a billionaire by 2030.

The plan was the missing step in building wealth. It helped me to focus on my plan, not go astray trying this that or the other. It is a plan that still works for me today. I keep building businesses; adding property to my portfolio; buying shares and cryptocurrency; hedging with gold and silver and writing about my experiences, skills and knowledge.

How The Government Improve Its Finances?

The government has 4 options available and all will hit your pocket.

• Raise Taxes – putting even greater strain on household finances and businesses

• Cut Public Spending – putting vulnerable people at greater risk

• Print Money – risks higher inflation and destabilizes the economy

• Grow the Economy – encouraging trade; business growth and job creation.

While most governments tinker with points 1-3 the only realistic way to improve the national debt and improve living conditions for its citizens is to grow the economy.

 Impact on Personal Finances

Everyone will know that their income doesn’t go as far as it used to go. Mortgages and rents have increased; heating and energy costs have gone up; food bills cost more and there simply isn’t enough money to go around.

The only options available are to reduce spending and increase income.

Reducing Spending

The first advice from the “so called experts” is always to reduce spending. Sounds good but in reality is the worst advice on offer. Simply because you have no control over core expenses. People think they are doing their best to cut back but expenses keep going up.

For instance, heating and energy cost. Turning the thermometer down a notch does help. Putting on an extra jump so heating is kept lower helps. However, the reality is the cost continues to rise. Core charges as well has unit charges increase. Items the consumer has no control over.

I remember when living in New Zealand there was a hydro water shortage and households had a restriction placed on energy use. One hour in the morning and one hour in the evening.

Our home was 100% electric. We had a central heating system which kept the house at a constant temperature throughout the day. When the energy restrictions came in our electric bill soared. That was because with the electric on for just 2 hours per day, the heating was running at full capacity to try and warm the house compared to having the heating on 24/7 it only heated when the temperature dropped and was more cost effective.

This example is to show, that trying to control your energy costs are extremely difficult and often not feasible.

Increase Income

The only option available to most people is to increase income. This is actually easier than most people think.

One of the recommendations I give my clients is to look around their homes at items they haven’t used for 6 months and are unlikely to use them in the near future and sell them online through platforms such as Facebook Market Place, eBay and Etsy. The results have seen clients generate between £211 – £5500 in one month.

Another way to make money is to teach someone about your hobby or interests. Knitting; woodworking; painting etc.

I write and so one of the ways I make money is through selling ready made products. I write about things that I do and create books; videos and content that can be repurposed and resold.

My first attempt at making money was through a catalogue business where I delivered catalogues on one night and collected the orders the next night. This was very successful until I moved and the couriers couldn’t find me to deliver customers products.

Today, the market is easier as everything can be done online from the comfort of your own home.

 When I consider investing in gold and silver, I look at two paths: owning the metal outright, such as in coins or bars, or opting for non-physical investment products like ETFs, mining stocks, or even digital assets tethered to the price of these metals.

Gold and Silver Volatility

Investing in precious metals comes with a set of unique benefits. They’re seen as safe havens during economic turbulence. Yet, no investment is without its risks.

Prices of gold and silver can be volatile, influenced by global markets with the banking industry buying and selling to meet their obligations for capital. Indeed, Central Banks also take advantage of the ups and downs to buy or sell adding to the volatility.

An example of this is the Chinese government who announced they were buying gold. The price went up and up to new highs before China announced they had stopped buying. As soon as the price dropped they started buying again.

Storing Gold and Silver

Holding physical gold can bring concerns over storage and insurance.

If holding small quantities of gold and silver a safe will generally suffice but check with the requirements of your insurance company as specialist insurance may be needed.

Online companies will also offer storage for a small fee with the commodity being held in their vaults.

Pension companies are increasingly allowing gold and silver to be added schemes and will provide storage facilities.

The storage being used comes down to the quantity being stored.

Gold and Silver Strategic Investing

Strategic Investing is my whole philosophy for investing.

I advise adding some sparkle of gold or silver to an investment portfolio simply because they typically don’t move in the same direction as stocks and bonds. This why precious metals are considered a haven in difficult economies.

I am frequently asked is “do I buy bars or coins?”

It comes down to personal choice; the amount being purchased, and the exit strategy.

Personal Choice – which do you prefer? Many people like the variety of choices for coins. I have country currency coins as well as movie-related coins and historical landmark coins. Limited edition coins offer both the price of the metal and the collector value of the coin.

Purchase Amount – if buying large quantities of gold and silver, coin storage can be difficult and this is where bars make more sense. They are compact requiring less storage space.

Exit Strategy – how do you intend to sell your gold and silver holdings? If the intent is to sell small quantities then coins are probably easier to sell than bars. Know your exit strategy and it aid the decision on bars or coins.

ETFs

For a more fluid investment, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) provide exposure to the precious metals markets without the complications of storage.

When you invest in a gold or silver ETF, you’re buying shares that track the price of the metal. This form of investment is popular for its ease of trading and correlation to the precious metals market.

The benefit of using ETFs is the ability to buy or sell quickly.

Mining Stocks

Mining company stocks are a different beast. By investing in companies that mine gold or silver, you’re putting your money into the performance of those companies, not directly into the metals.

Earned Income

This is generated from employment, wages or salary.

Income can also be created by having your own business and being an employee of the company.

As an employee, you receive a set monthly salary and the benefits other employees receive such as pensions, etc.

Profit Income

Profit income is earned from a business that sees the owner as self-employed. There is no formal company structure.

This often applies to side hustles until they generate sufficient income make it beneficial to become a company.

Dividend Income

Income generated from shares. This could be shares traded on the share market or privately owned shares.

Passive Income

Passive income usually involves doing the work up front and receiving the income later.

An example of this is creating a training course which is sold via automation. The work is in creating the course and setting up the automation. The passive income comes when sales are automatically generated.

Most people believe interest income comes from the bank. Let’s be honest, banks don’t pay much but there are alternative income streams.

Two of my favourite interest income streams are peer-to-peer lending and bonds. Both provide stable returns that add to the pool of income being generated.

Rental Income

Traditionally, rental income comes from property. However, rental income is not just about property. It can be any asset that leased to someone else in return for monthly, quarterly or annual return.

In the UK, parking is premium so renting a driveway during the day could bring in a regular income.

Capital Gain Income

Any asset that goes up in value and is sold is subject to Capital Gains Tax.

We often hear about paintings being sold for millions; diamonds and precious stones being an investment as well as flipping property.

Capital Gains Tax is payable on the profit and for some it is how they generate their income.

Royalty Income

I write books. For every book sold, I receive a royalty.

Royalty income is generated on items that are copyrighted.

Elvis Presley died in 1977, yet his catalogue of music and films still generates income for his family. It is esitmated that in 2022, over $35 million was earned in royalties.

Strategic Investing is like having a crystal ball and being able to see the future impact on the economy.

For example – when container shipping rates are high that will have an impact on the cost of goods and on inflation. It seems obvious doesn’t it? Yet, for many it is in the too hard basket to check container shipping rates and they wonder why increases in inflation or economic changes to their lifestyle come as a shock.

A few months ago the container prices started to go up due to various reasons including:

• The Panama Canal – droughts have seen the water levels low with ships either avoiding the canal or paying premiums to go up the waiting list to go through the canal
• The Suez Canal – conflict in the Middle East saw container ships avoid this shipping lane and divert around South Africa adding additional costs and delays in goods.

So, when inflation in the US started to go up again, it was no shock to my clients who were well informed about the changes in pricing.

Food Inflation

When New Zealand suffered a cyclone in February 2023 that wiped out so many export vegetables and fruits, who took any notice of the impact that would have on countries that import from NZ.

In 2023, for the first time in history, Spain imported tomatoes instead of exporting them. What impact did that have on countries that would normally import tomatoes from Spain

There was no doubt that cost of fresh foods to the consumer would be going up. However, again, the headlines were unexpected increase in the cost of goods surprise consumers.

It wasn’t a surprise if you looked at the bad news stories and connected the dots.

Bad News is Good News

Each day, I scan the newspapers online and find the bad news stories.

For every piece of bad news there is good news. An opportunity to be ready for what the economy is going to be doing in the future.

When my husband saw the stories about Spain importing tomatoes he started growing his own together with some other fruit and veg that we enjoy eating.

He saw the bad news and the opportunity so the impact of higher food prices has had little impact on our budgets.

It is the same with investing. Find the bad news stories and the investment opportunities.

Last year, I was about to give a presentation on strategic investing in Dublin. There were many attendees from UK at the event. That morning, UK kids were due to go back to school but with just a few hours notice the schools were closed and kids weren’t allowed to start their first day.

The background was an inspection carried out over the summer months found the school buildings needed maintenance and the schools were deemed too dangerous for the kids.

As I stood on the stage, I asked if the audience had heard about the short notice for school closures. Some had and the rumblings around the room were about government incompetence.

So, I said, what opportunities do you see from this bad news story?

That got them thinking and coming up with ideas. One business owner got on the phone contacting the school his child was at and won some work.

Bad news turned to good news when you look at the opportunities rather than the bad news story.

My Crystal Ball System

Whenever, I hear or read about bad news, my brain kicks into opportunity mode.

To paraphrase one of Newton’s Laws – for every action there is a reaction. If there is bad news (an action) what reaction will turn this from a negative story to a positive outcome?

When the bad news came out about the cyclone in New Zealand devastating the crops – apples, pears, kiwi fruit, avocado and bananas – if you were a farmer in another country there would be an opportunity to plant more crops and be ready to take up the slack in imports and the increase in food costs.

It would have been timely to invest in corporate-owned farms.

My Crystal Ball Method is to take a look at bad news stories, think about the impact it will have and find the investment opportunities.

Then a year or two down the track while you are raking in the profits there will be people who have missed the opportunity wishing they had known about it sooner.

It sounds contrary that memberships offer structure and flexibility but both work within a membership.

There is a structure to running memberships and engaging with members. However, there is also the opportunity to customize content to suit the questions and needs to clients

Content Specific to Clients’ Needs

Within my memberships there is a structure for learning. Topics that are covered in a specific order as they build one on top of the other to get the desired effect.

It’s compounding a step-by-step process that produces the end result.

However, each member is unique and while talking with customers within the live training sessions, the content can be flexible around clients.

For example, this week, an accountant and a sports coach were on a coaching call. I was able to present the content and then show them how it would apply to their specific industry.

Flexibility let the content be presented in a way that met the clients needs.

Relationship building and connection are what makes the membership work or not work.
